The Vivera winery is on the north-eastern slopes of the volcanic Mount Etna, which dominates eastern Sicily. Here the volcanic soils ans high altitude combine to produce a compelling organic single vineyard red wine made from Nerello Mascalese and Cappuccio. Aromas of rose petal, cassis and fresh cherry with hints of dark chocolate and damp forest floor with the fragrance of wild herbs. A satin-textured palate with a beguiling combination of mineral power and elegance, with a saline freshness to the finish.

In 2002, the Vivera family realised their dream to purchase an estate on the North Eastern side of the volcano and build a winery there. The Viveras are a classic example of “all things Sicilian,” with mother, Armida, and father, Antonino, coming from Sicily and their three children, Omar, Eugenio, and Loredana born and raised in Catania, close to the base of Etna. The whole family is involved in the winery.
The estate has 45 hectares of vineyards and olive groves divided into three properties: 12 hectares in Martinella at 550-600 meters above sea level are planted with native grape varieties of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante, all organically grown. Etna’s mountain climate with large temperature differences between day and night, along with its volcanic soil, assist the Vivera family in creating their unique and elegant Etna wines.
90% Nerello Mascalese, 10% Nerello Cappuccio, grown at 600 metres above sea level on the North-East slope of the volcanic Mount Etna, in the Linguaglossa district. This is a single vineyard which was planted in 2003. Here the soil is volcanic, peppered with round stones. The vines are vertically trellised and hand harvested in early October. Aged for 5 years in a combination of small and large old French oak barrels.
